OPENING Thursday 1st February at 6 pm.
Galerie Teodora presents “Make appear”, an exhibition that brings together for the first time in Paris the artworks of three young Italian artists : Romina Bassu, Simone Geraci and Rosario Vicidomini. Three courses, three experiences, three different influences linked by a similar sensitivity.
“Make Appear” has no theme, it is an encounter, a confrontation, an exchange. Each comes with his idea, his medium, his favorite medium to offer us a look at painting, this need to paint, all in a simultaneous polyphonic dialogue.
Romina Bassu presents a range of female figures whose residual humanity is defined by the role and social identity. Hre artworks deal with the bourgeoisie of the 50s when men and women experienced for the first time mass consumption. These new consumers, which the artist portrays, freshly urbanized and increasingly anonymous are in search of new benchmarks. Made in acrylic in a “logic of deprivation”, the protagonists of her canvases with scrambled faces, describe the details erased by time like the films of old movies or old photos. These subjects devoid of their features become anonymous and turn into symbolic and universal characters.
Simone Geraci is also interested in the individual and its facets. But her subjects are above all an aesthetic choice, a pretext for her painting. She finds her inspiration in vintage photos, archives, family albums or at flea markets. “Women” with dreamy eyes, refer to the time spent. By their features, they suggest the idea of suspended and motionless time in which they appear frozen and impassive. The whole work is dominated by a great tension expressed by the gaze, the vanishing point, the gestures retained and imperceptible. With regard to the Renaissance painter Sebastiano del Piombo who used slate, Simone Geraci is inspired by it as a medium for small formats. Contrasting contrasts and effects of brilliance, the slate contributes to the tension and the poetics of the painting.
Rosario Vicidomini is probably the most meditative of the three. In his work he does not try to represent the reality of things. His objects are not concepts, his works are a form of expression but above all a necessity, an impulse. Painting allows him to express himself beyond words. Constructed in a neutral space, the chosen objects, so common in appearance, are shown in their corporality and reveal a deeper, more piercing aspect, which remains mysterious and inaccessible. His brush strokes are light and precise, made with oil paint, are a silky base, a wadded place where to pose his “creatures”. Vicidomini creates microcosms in which his purpose is expressed during the creative process.
Here matter and time meet in this universe “mineral” and intangible. The purpose of the exhibition “Make Appear” is to create a harmony between the artworks of the three artists and the viewer. Between similarities, incongruences, oppositions or affinities, the essential thing is to be carried away by feelings and emotions. This friendly and open conversation, does not provide words !!!! The stakes are high !
