JM ROBERT began painting at a very young age, imitating the effects of patina, soiling and degradation that he observed on the facades of buildings.
After completing studies in Arts and Crafts in graphic design and settings, where he learned the professional techniques of the trompe l’oeil, he made his pictorial experiences inspired by urban art and painters from the end of the 19th century, 20th century.
He is interested in the creations of the blunderers whose language is strong and direct. In their creation, the goal is to leave a mark that in an instant, must catch the eyes of passersby. And by his painting, J M ROBERT immediately captures our eyes and invites us to grasp this presence. The darkness of the graphics by which he captures this expression contrasts with the very “flashy” color palette that is his.
His work is characterized by a pictorial act in two stages. At first, the bottom of the canvas must evoke the surface of an old wall: various materials, coatings and techniques, for example scraping, scraping … Surface on which are spread out the colors one by one which are encrusted in the interstices and the cracks.
In a second time the sketch of an evanescent face is superimposed on the landscape of ruined colors.
This face is also a trace, that of an anonymous passage, a presence always fragile, precarious, always feminine. As in Pompeii, Hiroshima, the shadow of the bodies.
